Graduate pathway / Plan, prepare, practise
Student to RN.
Your next step, mapped out.
Pick your state and when you expect to finish. You'll get a timeline for grad program applications and Ahpra registration. Then tick off what's done, build your interview answers and practise them out loud.
Your plan stays on this device. What you type and tick here is saved in this browser only (localStorage). Nothing is sent to OzNurseHub or anyone else. It won't sync to your other devices, and clearing your browser data deletes it.
Your browser isn't letting this page save, so your work will be lost when you close it. Copy or print anything you want to keep.
Tool 1 / My timeline
When does everything happen?
Your timeline updates as you choose. Program windows are shown as "usually", because they're set fresh each year.
Choose your state and finish date to see your timeline.
Tool 2 / Checklist
Tick it off as you go.
Your ticks are saved on this device, so you can come back to it all year.
Tool 3 / STAR answer builder
Turn placement stories into strong answers.
Grad applications and interviews ask for examples. STAR keeps them clear: Situation, Task, Action, Result. Link each one to the NMBA Registered nurse standards for practice.
Tool 4 / Interview practice
Say it out loud before the real thing.
Answer each question out loud, or record yourself on your phone. Many grad interviews are now recorded video interviews with a time limit for each answer.

Enrolled nurses
The enrolled nurse pathway, briefly.
- Registration works the same way. Enrolled nurses (ENs) qualify with a Diploma of Nursing and apply to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) through Ahpra's graduate application, so the Ahpra steps in the timeline and checklist apply to you too.
- Different standards. ENs work to the NMBA Enrolled nurse standards for practice: 10 standards in three domains. ENs work under the direct or indirect supervision of an RN. If you're building STAR answers for an EN role, link them to the EN standards instead.
- Grad and transition programs. Some programs take newly qualified ENs. For example, WA's GradConnect includes ENs, and Tasmania runs a transition to practice program for ENs. Check your state's page and local employers.
- Medicines. What an EN can do with medicines depends on their education. Read the NMBA fact sheet on enrolled nurses and medicines administration, and check your employer's policy.
- EN to RN. Many universities give credit for a Diploma of Nursing towards a Bachelor of Nursing. Ask your uni what credit you'd get. Many ENs keep working as ENs while they study.
